Summary:
|
The Defense Department has long recognized the importance of supporting and celebrating the children of service members.
Each April, the Month of the Military Child highlights the vital role these children play in the armed forces community. It is a time to honor military families and acknowledge the sacrifices and challenges their children face.
Military children experience unique hardships, such as frequent relocations and extended parental deployments. On average, military families move nine times during a 20-year career, requiring children to repeatedly adapt to new schools, make new friends, and start over in unfamiliar environments.
Established as part of former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger’s legacy, the Month of the Military Child serves as a meaningful tribute to these resilient young individuals. Silver Valley Unified School District proudly recognizes and celebrates our military children.
